Plant Liberty Pledge
The celebration of the United States of America, including the free and independent state of Kansas’, 250th anniversary begs the question I intend to ask as Governor regarding any policy decision, “What would the founders say?” It is my belief that they would not approve of the government telling the people what plants they can plant, possess, and use, regardless of that use, unless it involves violent, forceful, or threatening behavior. As the only candidate with the intent to reconcile the usurpation of cannabis prohibition by working to de-schedule cannabis (statutorily defined marijuana/hemp) and eliminate the current accepted criminal penalties and licensing requirements for possession and planting. I commit to strengthening our state’s Controlled Substances Act by making all possession violations a level 3 felony. I believe this action will be a better deterrent to this type of criminal activity and will reduce taxpayer burden on an unsustainable “behavioral health system”, reduce diagnostic inflation and pharmaceutical drug prescribing.
